Play Dough Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil

Instructions:

  • Mix the flour, salt, and water in a bowl. Add a small amount of oil (this keeps the dough from hardening).

  • Cover and let cool to room temperature.
  • Use the dough to make kid craft ornaments, sculptures or just as play dough!

Hope you have fun with this easy child craft recipe!

Simple "Clay" Dough

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups white flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions:

  • Combine flour and salt in a bowl and blend until smooth
  • Add 1/2 cup of water and continue to mix for a few minutes
  • Gradually add the remaining water and continue mixing the dough
  • Form the dough into a ball, working in any dry flour and salt left at the bottom of the bowl.
  • Knead the dough for approximately five minutes. Add food coloring if desired.

Use cookie cutters to shape this play dough or model it free hand. To dry the dough, place on a foil-covered cookie sheet. Bake in a 250-300 degree F (120-150 degree C) oven until hard (about five minutes for 1"-2" pieces). When the baked pieces have cooled, paint them with acrylics as desired. Brush or spray on a finishing coat of polyurethane to seal and protect the ornaments.

What an easy craft idea!

Bread Dough

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices white bread
  • 4 tablespoons white glue
  • Tempera paint (optional)

Instructions

  • Remove crusts
  • Tear bread into small pieces
  • Place in bowl and add glue
  • Mix until a ball forms
  • Knead until smooth
  • Add paint (optional)

This play dough recipe is easy to work with and can be kept for weeks in the refrigerator. Use it to make jewelry and other sculpted items. Bread dough can be given a high gloss by brushing it with equal amounts of water and glue. Let dry between each coating.

Cinnamon Play Dough Recipe 1

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1/3 cup white glue
  • Straw
  • Ribbon
  • Puffy paints, tempra or acrylic paint optional

Instructions:

  • Combine cinnamon, applesauce, and glue together in a bowl
  • Place on a smooth surface and knead until the mixture becomes a firm clay
  • Let the clay "rest" for approximately 30 minutes
  • Roll out clay with a rolling pin to a thickness of 1/8 inches
  • Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes
  • If you plan on hanging your kid craft ornament, make a hole in its top using a straw
Place shapes on a non stick cooling rack or wax paper and let dry. This may take a few days. Turn the shapes over from time to time to insure even drying. When completely dried, decorate using puffy, tempra or acrylic paint. Lace a ribbon through the hole for easy hanging.

HINT: Clay is best used at room temperature. You may need to dust your rolling pin, hands, or working surface with cinnamon, or use wax paper as a working surface.

Let us know how you enjoyed this child craft recipe.

Cinnamon Play Dough Recipe 2

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons white glue
  • 3/4-1 cup water
Instructions:

  • Mix cinnamon and glue
  • Add the water and stir until a ball of dough forms
  • Roll out with a rolling pin until 1/4" thick
  • Cut with cookie cutter
Make a hole at the top of the ornament and let dry at room temperature for 1-2 days, turning over every 6-8 hours.

Hang with a ribbon and enjoy the fragrance.
