Kid Butterfly Craft
This simple kid butterfly craft teaches the youngest of children about the development of butterflies.
Made from a recycled toilet paper roll, this easy child craft is a cinch to make. All you need is construction paper, scissors and some colored modeling clay and you're on your way. Choose your favorite colors to make this craft the best and brightest. Then head out to the garden for some "real" butterfly watching.
Enjoy!
Supplies
- Lightweight construction paper
- Colored modeling clay
- Toilet paper roll
- Pipe cleaners/chenille stems
- Green paint
- A pencil,skewer or wooden dowel
Instructions:
- Paint the toilet paper roll green
- Cut out a butterfly shape from the construction paper
- Spread thin layers of different colored modeling clay on the butterfly wings
- Attach pipe cleaners as antennae
- Glue the butterfly to the skewer, pencil or dowel
Roll the butterfly up (around the pencil/skewer/dowel) and insert inside the painted toilet paper roll. Slowly push up and watch as the butterfly unfolds from its mock chrysalis. (That's similar to "cocoon" for us "laymen.")
