A Great Idea! Homemade Puppets from Plastic Bottles

We've been spending time making homemade puppets lately and it's been so much fun. Our experience has taken us from paper bag puppets to felt hand puppets and now we're going to try our hand at transforming a plain plastic bottle into a puppet. The idea originally came from a preschool activity in Gan Pirchay Bar on my kibbutz, Mishmar Hasharon.

I paid a visit to the kindergarten and saw these cute plastic bottle people on display in the entryway. Take a look!

Homemade Puppets

The idea is actually very simple. Here's what you'll need:

Materials

Plastic water bottles
Construction paper
Pieces of felt,fabric and yarn
Scissors
Glue stick, white glue or a glue gun (adult supervision required)
Markers, crayons, colored pencils (your choice)

Instructions

Cut circles out of construction paper for the puppet faces. Use markers, crayons or colored pencils to draw on facial features.

Cut out felt or fabric scraps for clothing and glue on the bottle.

Hair can be fashioned out of thin strips of paper or yarn.

Arms and legs are made of accordion folded paper strips.

That's it....let the glue dry before you start playing and performing with your puppets!
