Get into the Hanukkah spirit by making an original Hanukkah menorah craft this year.
Most Jewish families light a menorah for each of the eight nights of Hanukkah. In my family, the tradition is that each family member lights their own menorah, or hanukkiah. I have four kids, so that means a lot of menorahs!
Not all of our hanukkiot are store-bought. Over the years, each of us has made our own menorah.....or two! We've used nut and bolts, felt, irrigation pipes, old fashioned clay and, well...you name it! As a matter of fact, I still light the menorah that I made as an enthusiastic five year old Sunday schooler.....way back in 1959! Here's my hanukkiah.
This year, our kibbutz sponsered a Hanukkah get-together. Crafts played a major role in the festivities, and one of the tables was dedicated to making Hanukkah menorah crafts. It's really super easy.
A block of clay stood at the middle of a large table and the kids just pulled off balls of clay and made them into the hanukkiah of their own imaginations
Have a look at our pictures and join Yael in creating your own original clay menorah. Let your creativity guide you.
