Felt can be a tricky (and frustrating) fabric to cut for little hands. If you're crafting with young children, you might want to prepare the basic body ahead of time. That way you do all the cutting and there's no danger in anyone getting burned with the glue gun. I used this craft with a group of four-year-olds and they had fun just decorating their animals.

That said....let's get crafting!

Here's what you'll need:

Materials

  • A printer--our template comes in pdf form
  • Construction paper, white printer paper or foam sheets (which is what we used to decorate our puppets)
  • Pieces of felt or material
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick, white glue or a glue gun (adult supervision required)
  • Markers, crayons, colored pencils (your choice)

    Instructions

    Print out the template.

    Cut out the template.

Place the template on the material of your choice (felt, fabric, construction paper, foam sheets, felt, etc.) and cut out.

Decorate the template pieces to your liking using either crayons, colored pencils, or markers . (Here's your chance to make this craft your own!)

Use our pictures as reference as to the placement of the body parts.

That's it....let the glue dry before you start playing and performing with your puppets!

Wait! There is one more thing we'd like to ask! Would you like to share your puppets with us?

We'd love to see your finished product. Maybe you "tweaked" our patterns and came up with some AMAZING ideas of your own! Don't be shy.
