Our Felt Christmas Ornaments Double as a Finger Puppet
Maya's experiment with felt Christmas ornaments yields a surprise finger puppet!
Truth be told, Maya has a secret love for all things felt. One look at her felt "stash" and you begin to realize just how much she loves working with this particular material.
What started as a puppet making experience soon let her to creating pretty barrettes and now Christmas ornaments.
Felt is a great medium for kids to work with. And sewing is a great life skill for anyone to learn, regardless of age! So follow our easy instructions...we even
provide you with a free template. So why don't we get started?
Let's see what you'll need:
Materials
- Felt (light brown for the body, red for his mouth)
- Ribbon (we used light blue gingham)
- Two small buttons
- Two small-medium googly eyes
- Fabric scissors
- Needle and thread or hot glue gun (adult supervision required)
- Craft glue (we used liquid UHU)
- Our template
Instructions:
1. Print out
our template and cut two gingerbread figures from the light brown felt.
2. Take one of the figures, and glue the ribbon (make into a bow), button, eyes, and mouth onto his body.
3. Use a needle and thread to sew the two gingerbread figures together. Leave an opening at the bottom for your finger.
Note: Insstead of sewing these pieces together, you can hot glue the two sides together but be sure to have an adult on hand to supervise.
4. Sew or glue a piece of thread or ribbon to the gingerbread man's head.
5. Hang on the tree!!!!
This adorable gingerbread man does double duty as a christmas ornament and a finger puppet! Use him to decorate your tree as well as retell the old story of the gingerbread man! He's sure to add fun and imagination to your holiday!
